NFL.com Preseason Game

On August 24, 2008 RCS partnered with NFL.com to provide an enhanced webcast of the Buffalo Bills vs Indianapolis Colts game for Verizon Game Extra subscribers. The RCS and RC Gear crews handled pre-production on everything from engineering and building the hardware to animating the show graphics. A custom version of Uppercut, our intelligent video system software, allowed a single director to switch the twenty live camera feeds on three shows simultaneously. The result was an unprecedented amount of broadcast quality content, with network graphics and live clock and score, delivered by a fraction of the personnel required for a traditional broadcast. The Uppercut system for Game Extra was configured to take in all 20 camera feeds from the game broadcast and a custom touch screen powered by Uppercut gave the NFL the ability to direct and produce the three channels simultaneously – with a single operator acting as TD/Director for all three channels. The two channel stereo mix from the broadcast was embedded in the video output and the end result was that online viewers were given four channels on which to enjoy the NFL action instead of the single channel provided on television. Each channel contained custom wipe effects, in-game graphics and a live clock and score.
